FINALLY:

1. I got my bicycle! or actually I got another one which is better for me, I think, It's more a combination of a racing bike and a mountain bike. It's 23" like the other one and I got a major lock on it as bicycles are being stolen here as if there was a sign on it saying free food! Yes, worse than in Amsterdam! I didnlt think that was possible! But I might go for a ride tonight! I'm sooooo Fast!
2. I got the vacuum cleaner (I dunno why they are open on Sunday but not on Saturday) and then because I was in cleaning mood I cleaned everything else too, or should I say dusted... It was gross!
3. I got some art done! after I posted yesterday I tried making some designs to spray on my locker and then I got inpsired while looking at pictures of flowers and made something to put on our door! It needed a bit of decoration. I hope Amy likes it too!
4. I finished my homework! LOL went to bed at 2:30am and got up at 9am I turned over twice to fall asleep again! Those who know me well, know that those occassions are few! So I had some good sleep too!
5. I finished the film in my camera! I hope they can develop this one here and can put the pictures on a cd.. then there will be visual entertainment up here soon!
6. I need some more lunch, I'm hungry!

Paint!

Kommaarop!

Sorry for those of you who speak English, but I was almost done when I realised I was typing in Dutch, I promise I wasn't talking about any of you! :)
It's just too hot to do anything here so I'm not retyping this in English!
Keep in touch!

Implicitly Chopsey

For those who wondered about the webadress of my blog:

Implicitly: capable of being understood from something else though unexpressed. An implicit assumption: involved in the nature or essence of something though not revealed, expressed, or developed. (Implied)
Chopsey: when one is very witty and quick in ones remarks. Dunno if it was Charlie or Iris that tought me that one, but I love that word! (Can only be English or Irish)

Campus Formalities

This is America:
Someone you havn't seen for a while: "Hey! What's up" or "How're ya doin' "
but don't think about answering that because they'll be gone.
Someone you just met: "So, what's your major?" or "What year are you", possibly followed by: "where are you from".
Someone you ran in to: "Oh I'm sooooo sorry!" depending on who said sorry first the other one says: "no worries"
At the cashtill: "How are you doing today" shortly followed by "did you find everything alright?" and "Have a great day" The last which I always beat them to and it's really funny because they don't expect it.
Aloha Friday: sorta like the African weekend...
Go figure...

Yesteraday I was studying for 2 exams (rephrase: trying to study for two exams but we had practice and a hurricane meeting, it might possibly hit hawaii! That should be intresting: We are to leave the doors and windows open or else they might get sucked out, we can sleep in the hallways and if we feel it is safer there are red cross dedicated areas. We are to store food for 3 days, turn the fridge up to the higest so it'll keep food cold the longest. We are supposed to pack a bag with clothes for three days and all important things like medication passports etc..
and wait???
hrmpf

Last news: I strained my triceps.. can't even reach anything above shoulder hight, can barely swim freestyle so I have been doing breaststroke and A LOT! of legwork. We'll see.. I get to run around with an ice packed arm about two times a day and for the rest I uddle on. I knew it was coming! Just didn't know how to prevent it. Will go to get my Ice pack treatment now!
Cheers!

De Stilte van Woorden

Truth only lives in rebels,
and being a rebel means living on the edge.
Living there means being alert, and every time there is an alternative,
not choosing the easy way out, the comfortable way, the respectable way or the socially acceptable way.
Choose that which makes a bell chime in your heart.

Translated from Dutch from "Usho, The Silence of Words" which my grandparents gave to me when I first moved to Hawaii, to pass the silences that were bound ot come :)
I just found it again, I had put it in storage... There's a lot of things I disagree with in there, but some are interesting to think about. This one, I just like! Hope you do to...

I Wanna be in America?!

Ondanks al mijn protest ziet dit er toch wel heeeel gaaf uit:

Welcome to the Land of the Dead

It finally caught up with me: Today I was dead... (still am because I started writing this post in Dutch?! and only noticed when I tranferred to English)
Yesterday evening I went to watch a movie in someone elses apartment (Shall we Dance) and then passed out at around 11pm. Alarm at 6:30 to go surfing. Walked to Waikiki with Malia and meanwhile caught up with each other about the events that happenened over summer. Loads of fun, my arms are still burning from paddling but I caught some waves, got up half of the time, nearly killed someone, or actually a few someones, got bitched at, got some help from some friendly people, got a bit of a tan and generally had a good time! On the way back we took the bus... had a look at Malia's apartment and then went home.. it was only 11:30 but I was ready for bed!
Obviously, after all the walking and bus riding you might have figured out that I didn't get my bicylcle yet. See, we have a little problem in the family, yes, well.. it's a lot more serious than you might think. It doesn't only decrease the avarge height of men but it seems that it also makes you need extra long pants and bigger bicycle frames. Yep..
I walked all the way to the bicycle store and all the way back with all my groceries because they had to order me a bigger frame! Grrr they'll call me at the end of this week or the next and meanwhile I am still walking!
Well then...
Once at home I tried to finish off my genealogy assignment which I have been corresponding about with my grandpa (we were suppose to, I'm not cheating!) but my eyelids were hanging over my knees so I went to get an hour of sleep first... by far not enough! I almost finished my geneology though (it's due tuesday). And had another look at my Essay for Enlish.
An intresting bit of information:
"We are directly related to Karel de Grote, or translated, Karel the Great. This man was the King of what is nowadays France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, most of Italy, and the Czech Republic." Not bad eh! And my Grandpa figured all of that out! To bad the essay was only allowed to be one page long.. I decreased the font size so I could fit more! :) I'm still in the process of drawing up the family tree though.
Am now waiting for my Amy to come back from bible study to go and have dinner, though I might settle for a sandwitch and go to bed... if I make it till 8pm tonight I'll be gratefull, 8:30 artclass in the morning and practice from 4pm to 7pm.
Ready or not, here I come...

Meep Meep, Zoef Zoef...

Friday, 'cause that's when the weekend starts, I was having a bit of an off day... With my luck it was also the first day that I was going to get back into decent practice habits. We went out to the beach (North Shore) to run and swim. The reason why I like waterpolo, and swimming for that matter is because it is IN the water. Dryland is just not really my thing and running up and downhill on a beach nearly killed me. We had to swim out to some ship which was rather far out and I hadn't brought any goggles (someone in Russia better really be loving them!) So apart from really shaking legs I had sore eyes, a dry mouth and really heavy arms :) I love SPORTS!!!
Anywho... After that we went to watch a game, not particularly interesting, got some food (Hmmmm SUSHI!) and went back to our rooms and apartments to get ready for the night out. There will be pictures and you have one of my friends to thank for that because she gave me a throw away camera (literally translated from Dutch) because she wanted to know everything that was going on, and so thanks to her (Dankje Inge ik doe mijn best) you'll get to see a lot of what's happening around here!
The Night out was along one! or actually it seemed rather short but we made it home at 3:45 am. It was great! Haven't danced so much, had so much fun, had so much to drink! And been hit on so much in a long time. LOL...
Good thing I was hanging out with a crowd of teammates and some friends of theirs who are in the navy and stationed here in Hawaii, so we could all come to each others rescue when there was need of rescuing :)

Knowing me, I still can't sleep in, I was up at 8. But I'm very awake now! (dunno how long that'll last though...) But today I'm going to buy myself a bicycle! I found a really good one at a cycle store a good 25 minutes walk form here (at least I get to cycle back). It's a mountain bike, 21 gears, one of those springs in the front that take the blow when you break hard, and all that for only 169 USD (+ tax of course, I always sorta forget about that until I get to the cashier)
So I'll be joining in the road rage here soon!

Tomorrow I'm going surfing!!!! YAY! (which means I also have to do a lot of homework today) I'm going with Malia, one of the other goalies from last semester, but who is a really cool girl and who I will just have to hang out with outside of waterpolo, A LOT! Kris is coming (she is new on the team and came out last night a well, like I said: pictures are on their way!, and I hoped amywas coming but I'll get her a reigncheck on that seeing as she goes to church on Sunday and we are probably going to be at Waikiki at 7 in the morning! It is the best place to watch very sunburned tourists, catch a wave (they are relatively small) and generally have a good time. There is shops all around and a lot of other tourist attractions (Iris, I'm taking you there when you come.. We're going surfin'too!)

Okay.. So far so good.. I need to get dressed and into action.. gooto go buy a bike! Wheee!

A Regular School Day...

What I was supposed to learn:
  • Infinite focal points (stargazing/ watching the sun set over a desert) calibrate your focal system. (that's why people that live in the desert and mostly outside need glasses less often) HOW VERY UNROMANTIC!!!
  • They were talking about how to balance a chemical equasion somewhere today but reading my roommates essay was way more intresting (I corrected it) when I looked up and they were still at it I got up and walked out. (I swear to god this guy is on a mission to make me pass out in class and I reckoned that is worse than walking out, so there)
  • Showing interest gets you things: I got sponsored a cup of ginger syrup (freshly made with ice, because I poked my head into the stand of the new vegetarian stand on campus. They make meals that seem more like dinner to me for lunch which I commented on and so he told me I could get some and store it in my fridge till dinner time! Good idea, I'll keep him up on that!
  • Why we play Peekaboo with kids? becayse arousal is pleasurable... why does that sound so wrong!

What else? It rains.. almost like the monsoon just now it is trade winds and winter??? I'm confused: Hawaii's heaviest rains come from winter storms between October and April. While the effects of terrain on storm rainfall are not as great as on trade wind showers, large differences over small distances do occur, because of topography and location of the rain clouds. Differences vary with each storm. So, I get rained on every other hour or so, the sky will be blue and the sun shining. We have the most beautiful rainbows, but getting into an airconditioned classroom isn't great fun when you're wet. My umbrella got eaten and peed on by rats over summer (donlt know which order) because I had stored it in the waterpolo teamtroom and there had been rats that ate through just about everything that didnt break their teeth first. I hope they choked on my cloth hangers!

First Official Entry

I reckon I finally got that done. Don't ask how because I'm not so sure anymore.
This is a picture from the World Championships in Montreal. It alsmost seems like a lifetime ago, but it really was only last summer! Old news for most, but we came tenth because somewhere along the line we stupidly lost to Germany. We played well after that, but not well enough to recover the damage we had created. More pictures can be found HERE. so that was to try pout the whole picture thing.

Right now I'm back in Hawaii, getting my "normal" life back on the road, going back to class. My first class was immediately a very memorable one: I'm in an introduction to figure drawing art class and am having the time of my life! We have a nude male model (about 60 so don't go al freeky on me :p)

After about half an hour of doing different short poses and our class drawing as if their life depended on itwe get to move one to longer poses. The first 10 minutes or so were fine, but then all of a sudden he started jerking his body. We were like WTbleep? Seeing as he can't sit still properly anymore and started sweating profusely we suggest he takes a break which he does. No problem! then he gets back on his chair and we all resume work untill he starts jerking again and he just drops off his chair!? EEks! Stark naked guy of about 60 lying on your art room floor alert! Most people had their cell phones in thier hands ready to dial 911 but he moved. Our teacher took a while to notice even (he gets really absorbed in his explanations and even managed to mumble a gorl to sleep the other day (she just passed out on her drawing board)) but eventually asked him if he was okay, because what else can you do? He took another break and got back on the chair. Everything was fine thereafter,we reckong he had an epileptic attck or something or maybe a minor heart attack, but everytime he sighs deeply I think he's gonna drop of that chair again!

Sundays they have a different model each week and you can pay 4 dollars to draw all day. Seeing as I needed to catch up some missed work I decided to go the fist possible sunday and I happily overdosed on art! I was in there from 9:30 to 12 had luch and another session form 1 to 3 that was when I started mucking things up so I went home. We had a swedish girl/lady as a model and she was really thin, very nice for bone structures and such (our guy is slightly overweight). She was a fashion model who had only recently decided to model for artisits because she though it added to her job and she found it realy intersting to see how everyone portrayed her! Well I can totally agree with her! I even thought I might try it sometime as the Lady who had organised this suggested that I could model too :) What a great comliment! But seeing as I'm a student athlete on a scholarship I'm not allowed to do such rambunctious things. I signed a contract for that. Darn!

Earlier this week I handed in my rough draft for a Descriptive essay for my english class because I came in two weeks late and needed to catch up. (yes, I need to take an english essay writing class because this is an American university and they don't care what you learnt in IB but find they need ot reeductae you.) This resulted in my not having to do another draft, how's that. She declared me a pretty strong writer. Huh?!

Well seeing as it is almost 8in the morning I reckon I should start my day (my roommmate went to practice this morning but I have opted out seeing as I needed some more time after having played all summer I went in twice.. once too loosen up and once because I didn't think it fair to the other goalies to leave them with all the hours (we spread them between us as there are individual practice times) so.. where was I.. right. Work!
